Grey To Green

Intersections Media’s “GREY TO GREEN” art project is a unique introduction of community arts into an unlikely city space: a parking lot and back alley in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. (On the left is a brief video showing the creation of the parking lot.)

Grey to Green’s goal is to rejuvenate the parking lot and alleyways at 150 Cordova Street, providing the Downtown Eastside with a new space available for hosting outdoor community events and a unique vehicle for the showcasing of public art.

Art Fence

An “art fence” project has transformed the parking lot fence into a canvas for local artists to display their work. The first exhibit was officially unveiled on December 8, 2010. The theme of the installation is titled “Living Here” and features 15 artists who live and/or work within 5 blocks of the fence. The fence project was curated by East Vancouver based artist James Koester. James also designed the metalwork frames that house the 17 paintings and created the arrangement of the works on the fence.  To read more about this unique art exhibit and to see examples of the artists work created so far please visit:

This project was completed in the summer of 2010 by participants in Vancouver’s Restart (restorative justice through art) youth mural program. Vancouver artist Steve Hornung (www.thecreativeindividual.com) designed the mural and led the youth in its creation.
